How to not be broke by the end of the month :)

For the past year, like many Americans, I had been living from paycheck to paycheck and had seen nothing wrong with that. To make it even more degrading, for the first few months of employment, I still had to borrow from my parents as my paltry paycheck couldn’t meet my exorbitant spendings.

However, as I find myself mixing with adults who are financially stable, I found myself more financially conscious and have been trying to somehow cut costs or break even. Although I’ve yet to be able to really save up, I’m glad to report that I have been improving in this sector, in the sense that I am able to last the entire month without having to borrow from anyone and I no longer have to resort to having Maggi for lunch during the last week of the month.

No More Nuffnang for me.

A few weeks back I actually wrote that I was rather impressed with Nuffnang but as time pass, I shall eat back my words. (Yes, laugh, yes) Thing is, after giving me 2 weeks worth of advertisements, slowly the ads ran dry (as before) and since then I’m left with nothing.

I feel rather confused actually as Ming told me that the reason I wasn’t getting any traffic was due to my placement of the ads. However, after bringing it up and using the ’standard’ sidebar sized ads, it was still not meant to be even with factors counted in.

I still left the ‘badge’ there as I thought, hey, it’s free after all and I might even stand to gain someday. This was, of course, until the only two Southeast Asians blog advertising agencies decided to introduce Exclusivity.

Does your blog statistics matter to you?

For an ‘aged’ blogger like myself (and by ‘aged’, I mean one who has been blogging for yonks) and many others, seeing our traffic count rise up steadily throughout the years has always been a thrilling experience. I have to admit when my blog first reached the 100 unique visitors daily mark, I would log in to Statcounter every hour or so just to make sure the numbers would add up.

That, would be what I call obsessed and that, my dear readers, is very, very unhealthy. Besides taking up so much of my time, I became crazily attached to the numbers - “Oh no! Not a hundred! Why? What happened?“, reason being I loved the fact that 100+ people cared enough to read what I have to rant about and a dip in it hurt my ego real bad.

As weeks passed, the excitement gradually faded off when I realized that thousands of other blogs have the same number of readership, and for many, even reaching thousands. What I achieved is well… nothing. Until, the day Online Advertising came into my life, all exciting and enticing, like a whole new world to be explored.

The Kingdom (Review).

The Kingdom certainly delivers its promises in its trailers of an adrenaline pumping movie, and yet it has managed to bring out much more. I have to admit that the film, about the investigations of a terrorist bombing led by FBI officer Special Agent Fleury (played by Jamie Foxx), has definitely knocked my sense of distaste for war movies off the wall and has opened up a whole new genre of films for my viewing.

Thanks Nuffnang!

Being one who keeps up with the blogosphere, I have to admit that the latest debacle over the Nuffnang issue was blown out of proportion until even I felt the heat. But because of a few events that spilled from one comment I made at Endoh’s blog, I can say that Ming, the company’s boss, has restored faith in me :)

Saving Cents.

The other time whilst I was dining at Banquet, a restaurant chain if you’re not in the know, I got a rude shock when I found out that they were charging S$1.30 for a can of normal drink, like the one in the picture above. Yes, I know some of you might say that that said price is the normal price, so why the hell is this blogger shocked?

Well, thing is I thought the usual price of such drinks is only S$1.20 and yeah, I queued up for a good 10 minutes (breaking of fast time) with that exact amount in my hands. There, S$1.20, my entire life savings. With such hope and zest thinking of that sweet taste of green tea sliding down my parched throat, the disappointment I felt (not to mention the embarrassment) when I had no money to buy the drink was truly one of the lowest moments in my life.
