Children’s Museum at Arab Street.

Last Saturday whilst Haikal and I were walking around Arab Street aimlessly after his Asr prayers and we were waiting for Fitree and Sandy to arrive, the two of us finally decided to explore the Childrens’ Museum which is in one of the shop houses around the area.

I do not know the exact address of the Museum, but if you walk along the pavement directly in front of the main entrance of the mosque (where the 7-11, Wardah Bookstore etc is) towards Kampong Glam Cafe, you will notice a shop selling vintage toys (Styrofoam planes! paper balls!) with a big robot guarding it’s entrance.

Once you greet the loud AhPek at the first level and pay him $2 per person for entry, he will grant you access to the second floor of his shop house – which is essentially a small narrow room cramped with vintage toys and stuff – the Childrens’ Museum.

For the price of $2, of course you should not expect something as solid as the Mint Museum of Toys. But with a dash of curiosity, stories from good old days and pure imagination and camwhoring abilities, the small room filled with stuff from the past kept Haikal and I busy for the next 30 – 45 minutes just going through every item one by one and taking 1001 photos.

We later even got ourselves each a souvenir at $2 per Styrofoam plane (boohoo inflation. I used to buy these at fifty cents when I was in primary school!) and spent the remnants of the time alone fixing the planes up and throwing them around at Al Majlis hahaha!

And we finally concluded the evening with dinner + sheesha at Al Majlis with the two kids that I have not met since forever and ever :) As per normal Al Majlis sessions, we waited 30 minutes for our main course, another 15 minutes for our sheesha and drinks to arrive, and another 30 minutes for our appetisers to be served.

All these even AFTER getting hold of their main line and calling the number 101 times asking for service on the second floor kwa kwa kwa~ Nevertheless, the four of us still managed to have a good time playing cards and swapping silly nonsense like we always do!
