Isn’t Mr Bely (top right of picture) the cutest?!
Alhamdulillah, in the financial year of 2008 my company did very well in our sales and aside from the 13th month bonus as well as the >3 times performance bonus coming in soon (so exciting!), the management also went ahead with our annual Chinese New Year lunch at Hyatt’s Straits Kitchen.
Actually Mr Bely (my Biggest Boss) asked us to choose between Scott’s Carousel and Hyatt’s, and it was unfortunate (on my end) that most people preferred Hyatt’s. Personally, I favor Carousel due to the range of cold dishes and dessert available. To me, Straits Kitchen’s food are just like any normal Asian food in the open market.
But in any case, it was a good lunch filled with story telling and picture taking, and may I recommend that anyone doing the buffet start with the Indian dishes as they are the best in the whole range of food available :)

I think that I am very fortunate to be in my company, because amidst these troubled economic crisis, all of us save one* are still sitting comfortably on our normal salaries and the bonus was even bigger then the years before. On top of that, we don’t have to take forced leaves and I think the HR’s going to organize another R&R trip soon.
The directors have drawn out a projected sales amount for 2009 which is even bigger then 2008’s, and seeing the gloomy forecast by everyone else in the market, I was rather apprehensive at first but seeing the amount of work waiting for me when March arrives (shit, that’s tomorrow!) I hope we’ll be able to pull through with flying colors like we did this year.

Because well, then next year Siti (my assistant manager) and I can bully our manager into treating the department at Amirah’s Grill again! hahaha…
More pictures from my flickr set:-
*The only reason why one person was fired because he was pretty much a redundant cost to the company – a guy who played games in the toilet cubicle, watched movies and fall asleep at his desk, refused to help with anything not within his job scope, and practically told everyone he wanted to quit after receiving the big bonus. Smart move, big guy.

And so I am turning 21 this year. I try my best to make time for family, I suggest family outings etc etc but well in my mother’s eyes I’m always the black sheep of the family (and I just ain’t talking about my skin color).
So what if I work and contribute money to the family? So what if I try and make more conversation with her? So what if I now don’t complain when asked to do housework? So what if I don’t talk back to her?
In her eyes, she’ll always see the ‘bad’ things I do (like going out overnight last night with girl friends ONCE in half a year). To her, I’m always the one who she feels embarrassed about. Yerlah, sape aku ni? Takde degree, takde ape to speak myself up for kan? I just feel that I can never please her no matter what my personal achievements are. Because my personal achievements are never consistent with her image of an ideal daughter.
Sigh. I don’t know how to prove myself to her, besides being someone who I am not.
On another note, am in the midst of uploading pictures :) Will be blogging happy stuff soon!

Apologies for the delay of updates and pretty pictures for the moment as the blogger has been busy with a couple of things:-
Work
I don’t quite know what actually happened, but right now I am to work under two departments instead of one – half a day for each department. So instead of doing the normal shipping documents plus designing the catalogues and advertising materials for the Electronics Department, I am also doing the catalogues for the Paper Department.
The downside to this is that the Paper Department has 1001 more things to input as compared to the current Electronic Goods catalogue and I will not be getting any additional pay whatsoever. However, looking on the positive side, with half a day dedicated to only doing catalogues, I have been picking up new tricks and techniques for Photoshop as I browse through new ideas to generate something which the directors may like.
Alhamdulillah, I have always said that I love this company but I dread doing shipping documents, and with this new ‘thing’ going on, I get to do Graphic Design but STILL be in the company! Added to the fact that my design course in NAFA will begin in July, InsyaAllah 2009 will be fulfilling for me in this manner :)

Life
The other day whilst sitting in my living room with my family at 10pm, I realized how much I have missed out for the past few months. Usually, after I come home from work anytime between 8pm and 11pm, I would greet my family, use the computer in the study room till midnight, wash up and get to bed.
But as I sat there, laughing and sharing stories with my siblings and parents, I realized that by cooping myself in the study room doing blogging-related materials like editing my photos etc, I had forgotten to spend quality time with them. Therefore for the past few days, I have made it a point to sit with whoever’s at home for at least an hour or two before I get to the computer, which explains the delay in posts currently.
Nevertheless, I have restructured my daily planner in a bid to try and mantain balance between the two (thus explains why this is blogged at 6:15am in the morning). We’ll see how it works out :)
Note of things to blog about :
- Company lunch at Hyatt and dinner at Amirah’s Grill
- Ashrithaa’s 21st at Modestos + Hard Rock
- Haikal’s 21st
- Farhan’s 15th
Normal daily blogging will resume as of today (padahal I only did not blog for one day, that’s how addicted I am to blogging hahaha!)

My weekend was jammed packed with Haikal’s birthday activities and right now, I am having a general feeling of “What? Tomorrow’s Monday already?!” and I think my Mum is kind of sulking because I spent two whole days away.
Sorry Mak, only this weekend ok? Hehehe. Shall be a good girl and stay at home next week for most days to make it up.
In any case, just before I hit the sack, just want to announce that the first family gathering I had with Haikal’s family went well generally :) *Thumbs up* His aunts and uncles are very easy going, his cousins are great talk-cock buddies with (one of them is my sec school teacher), the younger kids laugh and play with me, and his grandmother is so damn cool yo!
Updates about my past week will begin tomorrow! Have a good week ahead, kids!

Haikal turns 21 tomorrow and I will be busy during the weekend carrying out the plans that I’ve made *heh heh*. For those of you who have been following me for more then a year, during Haikal’s 20th, I actually threw a surprise birthday bash for him at Arab Street and invited both his close cousins and friends.
This year we decided to tone it down and just celebrate it between the two of us a day before his birthday, as his family will be throwing a party for him on Sunday itself. Of course, because Haikal gave me two of my most memorable birthdays ever (*inside joke*), I wouldn’t just let his birthday be a normal celebration, ey?
So… yeap! Everything’s all ready, packed and I am pretty excited. Wish me luck that nothing cocks up because now, it’s all in God’s hands :)

In Islam, we are taught through the Quran that this world is not only occupied by humans and animals, but also the unseen. Amongst us, there are other creations of God like the Djinns and Satan, all of which cannot be seen by the naked eye, save for the ’selected few’ whose third eye has been opened, either through pure luck (or lack of it, rather) or because they meddled with things which they are not supposed to.
On another note, most Malays believe that every house has its ‘penunggu‘, which effectively is a being from another dimension living in the house together with the normal human beings. Some penunggus generally do not go about creating a problem in the household, but unluckily for some, other penunggus are quite the troublemaker.
This personal ghostly encounter I am going to share involves both the above points. It happened probably five years ago, when a friend with a knack for detecting the undetectable staying over at my house.
