What’s Your Color?

It’s green for The Wahids this year… as well as for a bazillion other Muslim families we see walking around, apparently haha! A normal routined Hari Raya outing – visiting Mum’s elder siblings and ending the day at the paternal grandparents’ crib.

Only difference for this year, would be the amazed look on the elders’ faces as I hand them green packets and refuse to accept theirs, the surprised look on the younger cousins’ faces as I distribute the above to them, as well as the crestfallen look on MY face as my younger brothers end the day counting their collection whilst I peep into my empty clutch.

Bluek… As if to add salt to wound, my aunty cum manager approached me and said

Haha Faddy, there’s no turning back now. Even if you start school back next year, you’ll never get any more green packets because everyone has registered it in their heads that you are working! Waaaaahahahaha! Welcome to the adult world!

Takde mood lansung nak pergi, you!

Takbir.

The one event I look forward to the most upon the end of Ramadhan, is not the feast that awaits, is not the nice clothes I get to wear, is not the prospect of meeting family and friends alike… it’s sitting down with the family having our last breaking of fast, and listening to the Takbir.

Every year without fail I’d shed tears upon listening to it, for it reminds me of how human I am and how Allah is the Greatest, the Merciful.
