Visiting Qian Hu Fish Farm.

After reading blog upon blog writing about the Qian Hu Fish Farm, I finally managed to get my family there on Vesak Day. Initially, my dad wanted to visit the Singapore Expo as a family but seriously, where’s the fun in seeing the same Indonesian wares again and again? Haha…

Upon reaching the location which is rather inaccessible save for the shuttle bus service and our own vehicles, rows and rows of tanks containing all kinds of fishes greeted us, together with the true blue smell that I have come to associate with the Fish Aquarium Shop of my childhood days.

As we strolled along, peeking through the clear glasses or inside the big blue tanks, the brothers and I reminisced about the times in primary / secondary school where we had our own collection of fishes. Sad to say, I have to admit that we were BAD guardians, as we viewed the pets as disposable commodities -.-”.
After we had to throw away the 3rd batch of fishes / turtles into the longkang (or bury them), we received a big earful from the parents and decided to stop buying those little itsy-bitsy angel fish or guppy fish; the prettier the better. In fact, I think dad got so traumatized by our reckless behavior that when Fauzi wanted to buy another fish when we were at the farm, he gave a firm NO. HAHA!

30 minutes later we finally did what I wanted to do in the first place - dip my feet into a pool full of carnivorous fishes haha! Ok fine, maybe they were not as vicious as piranhas but they were biting and nibbling on me alright! At a cost of $10/30 minutes per person, we were treated to a fish spa, with fishes ‘cleaning’ our feet for us. Hmm, shouldn’t they pay US for feeding THEIR fishes? HAHA.
Anyway, they said it’s for 30 minutes but really I didn’t see anyone checking any receipts whatsoever so, yeah :D

It’s a nice feeling, actually, for those who are curious. I won’t deny that it is ticklish at first but after a few minutes you kind of get used to it and even will find the sensation comforting. Of course, there are people like my Mum who keeps screaming and giggling even after 30 minutes, and there’s my dad who loved the fishes the bigger they are, haha!

And while the parents and I enjoy our spa, the two little brothers went longkang fishing at $5/30 minutes per set of tools. So between the both of them, they shared a little net, a small fish tank and a plastic cup, and happily went gallivanting around the area trying to capture poor unsuspecting fishes.

At the end of it all, they managed to catch a respectable amount of 6 fishes (which I find admirable since I tried for 10 minutes but didn’t manage to catch ONE fish buh!). Of course, you get to keep whatever you caught and have the fish tank too, but the boys decided to release them since we all know they’re going to die in our care haha!

Overall, I found the experience rather nice, and a definite break from our normal mundane city lives. I can safely say each of our family members enjoyed the different activities we did and even though the amount is a tad pricey, it was worth the experience :)

As for our family, we ended the day with a simple dinner at Jurong East’s newly opened Teh Tarik and headed home sweet home :) Actually, I kind of ran out of ideas on places to go with the family. Any ideas, anyone?
