Getting fit with Fitness First.

During my schooling years, I used to be able to stay energized the entire day with only 3 hours of sleep. Fast forward to the current Faddy, even with 6 hours of sleep (that’s double the amount, mind you) I find myself lumbering around with droopy eyes more often then not. At times I asked myself if it’s one of the symptoms of an aging body (chet, as if I am THAT old hehe) or merely the fact that I’m getting lazier?

It’s been a long, long while since I’ve last done any proper exercises (you know, the kind which leave you breathless by the time you’re done) and we all know that there is a correlation between the level of physical activities a person indulges in and how energized that person can be. Simply put, less exercises equates to a weaker body and vice versa.

For the past few months I have been toying with the idea of jogging regularly (say, thrice a week?) but sad to say that idea remained as just an idea thus far. At the risk of giving excuses, I think that the reason why it’s so hard for me to start is because:-

1) I reach home at around 10pm most days of the week. It being 10pm, it was no surprise that my mom wouldn’t have allowed me to jog alone at that time. Furthermore, the level of foreign worker activity in my area seemed to be increasing exponentially these past few weeks. Maybe I’m being a tad xenophobic, but I don’t really favor the idea of jogging past a group of drunken workers.

2) I thought of jogging in the morning before work hours but as all of you should have noticed, it has been pouring heavily / drought after drought these days. I doubt jogging in the rain / unnerving heat would benefit my health in any way, heh. Also, the sounds of dogs barking and howling can be rather unnerving, what more with the surroundings still being pitch black. Yes, I’m quite the scaredy-cat, hoho.

Signing up with Fitness First at a whopping $150/mth (thank GOD for company subsidies!) could just be my long awaited savior. Since the company is subsidizing two-thirds of the amount, it is only right that they’re making it compulsory for us to utilize the gym membership :) Now I can’t give any more excuses, can I?

The pros about this are that firstly, the gyms (yup, I can go to all of them!) are all fully-equipped and have such wonderful facilities and sceneries (both the landscape and the guys HAHA) to boot. I daresay, that it’s an about turn from the normal gyms at the CCs which I usually go to. Instead of small cubicles, we have fairly decent ones, with hairdryers, and the works! Also, instead of Ahpeks who gawk at our bums, it’s now my turn to gawk at the bums of cute Ang Mohs! HAHA!

To add icing to the cake, they even have free DVD rentals, indoor heated swimming pools, sauna, cafes, etc etc. Ack, to tell you the truth, I was practically gawking when I first set foot in it! So jakun, I tell you hehe…

The cons about signing up with them, however, are that the gyms are all a great distance from my house (the nearest being at Tanjong Pagar) and I can’t randomly call any friends to the gym as they too would need membership to get in. And at $150/mth, I’m afraid it’s a luxury that most of my friends my age can’t afford :( Heck, even I won’t be able to afford it if not for the subsidy :)

So yeah, I’m quite pleased with myself now that I have embarked on this plan to keep fit :) Hopefully by the time my birthday arrives, I can reward myself with a washboard stomach like the good ol’ days. CANNOT WAIT!

P/s. Anyone has Fitness First memberships? Now the only kaki I have is Siti, my colleague. Hohoho! The more the merrier, I say!

Hi Fadhilah. I happened to chance upon your blog and read that you’ve really enjoyed your workout at our clubs. =) Fusionopolis will open its door on September 08 as a Fitness First (not Platinum) club with three-storeys fully equipped with all range of facilities including roof-top swimming pool and classes!

I hope to see you in the club often (since siti mentioned that it’s near your house). Hehe. Also, do let me know (call or sms 9698 1226) if you’ve got friends who are interested in coming to our clubs for complimentary workout session to experience ya.

Cheerios,
Berdley
