Surprise Party, anyone?

At this point of time, I think it’s obvious enough to anyone reading my blog that I love my boyfriend very, very much. He lets me cry on his shoulders, he listens to me patiently when I snap at him during times of crankiness, his words tickle me till I snort with laughter. And as an added bonus, he still surprises me with little (and not so little) gifts up till this day :)

Without all this background knowledge, sometimes people misunderstand and accuse me of splurging too much on him. Maybe that’s true, maybe that’s not. But I feel that it is up to me on how I want to spend my money and spending it on him feels perfectly alright and really, to see him have tears of joy from all my hard effort was priceless (as cliche as that sounds).

The day began after Friday prayers, of which I picked him up (decked in girly attire, no less! HAHA. Thanks Peah!) and we proceeded to have a celebratory dinner at Swensens @ Orchard. The food was fine, but the company was the best :) Over my Crayfish Pasta, his Sambal Fish and the shared Sticky Chewy Chocolate, we poured over stories and read his birthday smses which seriously just couldn’t stop coming in.

We then proceeded to watch Ah Long Pte Ltd, which I have to admit was pretty entertaining in a very slapstick manner. I guess, like all movies of a ‘foreign’ language, many of the jokes are lost in translation as the Chinese community in the cinema was breaking out in laughter over and over again whilst Haikal and I found ourselves just smiling amusedly.

After the movie, I ducked into the toilet to call Fitree, my partner in crime in organizing the birthday party for the boy. In a flurry of panic, Fitree said that many people were still not at the location as of yet and told me to create a delay. And of course, me being me, just spouted a whole load of nonsense, which ended up with conversations like these:-

“Bie, that was Fit. He had some family issues going on so he can only meet us at around 730pm? That’s like in another hour. Shall we walk around first?”

Oh okay… Hope he’s okay… Let’s go Spotlight!”

*10 mins later, the handphone beeps and Fitree says to hurry down as everyone’s at the location (Mosi Cafe, Arab Street)*

“Ahh… Bie! Fit says we can meet him already as he’s in the cab to Mosi.”

“What! Why did he take the cab? Can tell him don’t waste money!”

“But he’s already in the cab! He says he feels bad that he’s late for your birthday celebration what.”

No! Tell him to get down! You ah… Give me the phone!”

“Eh don’t call him la, he’s already in the cab what…”

*Kal snatches phone and dials Fitree*

“Eh bro! Why you take cab? Are you in the cab? What? You’re not? Eh don’t take cab! What? You’re in the cab? So… Are you in the cab or not?!”

(Of course, Fitree didn’t know what lies i told to cover up so he was obviously lost. I was right off my head praying that Fitree wouldn’t give anything away and *phew*, he managed to wing it. Heh.)

*Kal puts down phone*

“So, Bie, is Fit in the cab?”

“Don’t know! When I talked to him he sounded so confused but I think he’s in it cuz he asks us to hurry up cuz he’s reaching.”

Kekekeke. You pulled it off Bro! Owe you a million right there. So whilst we were walking to the Cafe, my heart was practically dancing in my mouth. And finally I get to sigh a huge sigh of relief after one whole month.

All the days lying to him, all the moments I had to nervously avoid checking any messages when he was with me, all the smses I spent inviting people and making sure everyone he loved could turn up; it all boiled down to that one look on his face when the silent room erupted into a birthday song.

The shock, the silence, followed by the widest perplexed smile and the smallest hint of a tear that was in his eyes - it was the same look he had when I gave him his first surprise. That was when I knew that the plan Fitree and I had set in motion had succeeded. Thank God…

The rest of the night was just spent mingling around aimlessly whilst camwhoring and munching down the food which I had ordered beforehand. I have to admit that playing host to many different cliques who know nothing about each other was very bloody hard and I didn’t play the part well at all, but I hope everyone at least had their moments with the birthday boy :)

Words and a million thank yous can never aptly describe how appreciative I am that each and every one of you took the trouble to turn up. Nevertheless, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

By 9-ish, a few of the guests made their departure and all that’s left were the birthday boy, his Mayflower Secondary mates, his cousins, as well as Kimmy, Nassy and myself. With the introduction of a deck of cards and a game titled “7-leveled Pig” by Este, Haikal’s cousin, the real deal of a party began.

We hooted, hollered, laughed and jeered so loudly till the manager came up to remind us that there were other patrons downstairs. Of course, 5 minutes later his advice hit the dust and our voices rang into the night as we did what we did best - have fun.

Throughout the night as we played games, I managed a look-see around and found myself perfectly contented and satisfied. If you asked me if the party was worth it, I would capture that moment right there to answer that rather rhetorical question of yours.

I mean, (pardon the mushy crap coming right up) the feeling that there I was, in a room full of Haikal’s closest friends, joining in their laughter and happiness, was just so… I don’t know… Perhaps relieved? Relieved that they accept my presence and glad that they seem to welcome me in their group.

And of course, who can forget the boyfriend seated across me, sneaking smiles towards my direction? For that smile and the words coming from his eyes alone, I wouldn’t mind throwing a party for him annually HAHA :)

So, yup! On the 22nd of February, my Mr K turned 20 years old. (Lol, that sounds so old.) I’m praying every single day that I get to blog about his birthday every single year till we get really really, really old and dusty, InsyaAllah. Happy 20th Sayang :)

Oh and last but not least,
