Batam Trip with the Family.

If I were to summarize the trip in one word, I would, without a doubt, tag it as ‘disappointing’. Perhaps I can safely blame myself due to my high expectations, but really, to me it was a tad disappointing due to the location of stay.
Let me just explain here that when I heard that we’re staying at a “resort with a private beach”, I already had pictured myself frolicking along the shore, relaxing under palm trees after a round of swimming and jet-skiing. Thus, when I stepped foot into Harris Resort and found a small ‘private’ beach no longer then 15metres which we cannot swim in, and that the water sports are all expensive nak mampos (SGD$70 for 30mins of Jetski), I could practically hear my heart shatter hahaha.

Besides the water sports, everything in the hotel (from food to all activities) are based on Singapore Dollars thus making it rather pricey for my family. Truth be told, I think the trip to Pulau Redang, Malaysia was much cheaper and a million times more fun as compared to this trip.

The only commending factor of Harris Resort, in my opinion, would be the wonderful staff who have no lack of hospitality and could be a role model for many of our service sector staff here in Singapore. Not once did any of them pass by me without a smile or a greeting, and it was so easy to make acquaintances! Really, through the interactions we had I can tell that they’re really sincere in trying to please the guests of the hotel.
Also, I guess to make up for their lack of ‘physical activities’ the staff regularly conducted interactive activities like games and dances for the guests to indulge in. Though most of these are targeted towards the kids, the adults are more then welcomed to join in.

All in all, boring (just like this entry haha!). I guess to me, the exchange rate (and thus, the financial capabilities) really do weigh a lot during a holiday. Perhaps I would have a tad more fun if was able to Jetski etc. Bleargh~ Don’t go Batam for your holidays, kids.
