‘Pregnant’ Ladies - To Be Given MRT Seats?

Everytime I board the MRT to and fro from work, I would be plagued with a dilemma which would tug at my very conscience and sometimes, sometimes, it would even cause me a sleepless journey throughout.
Being one who is always conscious of the fact that the seat I am sitting on gives priority to the silver generation as well as mothers-to-be, I would most of the time give it up to them when need be. Simple as the concept might sound, I (as well as some like-minded friends) faced this problem when giving up seats to the latter group - the problem of identifying them in the first place.
You see, sometimes, women with bulging tummies due to fats can tend to look like they’re pregnant and likewise. So how do we differentiate between the two?

A friend of mine once shared a story that she gave up a seat for this lady who looked like she was pregnant, but was subsequently scolded as the lady actually just had a bulging tummy. In my opinion (and I safely say, many women), it is rather embarrassing for a woman to be called pregnant when she’s not, thus the given outburst.
On the other hand, my (not pregnant) cousin said that if someone were to give up the seat for her, she’d welcome it and would even act as if she was pregnant. Better a seat then standing, ey? Haha.
As for myself, I have taken the stand of just giving up seats to the older generation as well as ladies whom I can confirm with one look that they’re pregnant. I guess for me, it’s better to be safe then sorry :P
What’s your stand on this, given that you are either the one giving up the seat, or you’re the lady with the bulging tummy who has been given a seat on the assumption that you’re pregnant?

I’m also afraid that one day I might give up my seat for a lady with bulging tummies and ganna scolded. But l’m happy to say that so far I’m always correct in spotting pregnant ladies. :)
Good for you DK! I guess you have the eye :P
hahah tt’s not a dilemma! my dilemma would be whether to give seats to those parents pushing the prams! ’cause their child is in the pram so when I gave up the seats, it’s the parents that sat down!
funny thing is, if I don’t give my seat up, I will have stares. I don’t know why. Maybe next time if I want a seat, I should carry a pram around.
hahhaa ye tak ye eh, now that you mentioned it.. Hmmmm…
orang dah kasi tu duduk je lah.. hahahaha…
but like DK, i think so far i’m lucky to spot preggers?
heh, i think i would sit too but feel so super bloody self conscious about my tummy after that :P
har har har har!

Haha, have any of you encountered being stared for not giving your seat, and ALSO being stared FOR giving up your seat??
It gives me the shivers. So i rather stand in the MRT. enuff said.
oh wait.. i take the bus these days! hur hur hur! nice blog faddy!
Ditto to what you said bout being stared at for giving up your seat! Maybe the culture now is not to give up seat so its a weird thing to do hahaha :P
here’s how u can spot the genuine pregnant ladies from those with just a bulging tummy.
normally a pregnant lady would have a protruding belly button. so look out for that first if you’re unsure.
wouldn’t guys like me be deemed perverts if I happen to ‘be on the lookout for belly buttons’? damn.
yest there was this fat/preggy (I don’t know!) lady in front of my friends and I while we were sittin in the train. I guess it was just unfortunate for her as she didn’t past our ‘pregnancy test’.
hahahhaha… what’s the determining passing factor?
But do ALL pregnant ladies have protruding belly bu’ons?
HAHA. i was offered a seat before because i was having my period = bloated stomach + the “twins” were also abit swollen hahaha. PLUS i was wearing a dress and confortable flats. LOL LOL. but i said no and was super embarassed lah! i actually went to the other and of the cabin.
but if i was to give up my seat for pregnant women, i’d look out for:
the stomach (obviously)
swollen ehems and ankles
and also what shoes they are wearing
haha okay i just wrote an entry here LOL.
Eh i totally used your criteria and now I feel SO much better if i dont give up my seat to a certain lady. sumpah! hahahahha thanks hun!
i jus cant be bothered…
i mean seriously…
i jus pretend that im sleepin..
wahahahahha..
to me, give seats to the older generation is much better and should be highly practice…
pregnant women can jus take a cab if they dont want to stand up!
Sampai hati kamu edddyyy. Teksi skarang dah mahal, kerja pregnant ni LAGI mahal hahhaa~
Was ur cousin me?
Wahahaha!!
Cause i remembered i said tt to someone.
Anyways yes of coz i’ll give my seat to those needy.
Sincerely.
Smile.
Glooming coz i did a gd deed baby.
of course la you. who else yang tak tau malu kan hehehhe :P
Hahax!!! Sometime i can get very very uneasy/stress with preg or non preg woman infront of me. Esp those who look like but u’re not sure. To esacpe frm spot the preg or non preg woman i rather sleep or play PSP. So if there really a preg woman if i didnt give a seat atleast i got a reason. Hahax!! Btw, you like understand.. I just want to blog about this.. hahax! :)
hahah i sometimes like to “pretend sleep” when im unsure, but tup-tup aleh2 muka pat stomp hahahaha.
True, some ladies are just fat and not pregnant.
And some pregnant ladies don’t even wear maternity clothes!
Ni pun boleh jadi dilemma ehh. Hehe.
heehhehe dilemma ah abeh. guilt conscious tau beta! :P
seriously, it’s hard to tell if she’s pregnant or not la… haha.. some also act to be pregnant. so dunno la eh..
*shrugs* Precisely!!
