C for Cycling.

So Haikal and I are into the third week of Project Alphabet Weekends - the letter C. It was obvious that we both wanted to go cycling, an activity which we have enjoyed right from the start. Initially we planned to carry it out at Pulau Ubin, together with Fitree and my brother, but as the latter two dropped out at the eleventh hour, we turned to other options.

On the spur of the moment, our planned leisurely cycle at East Coast park itself evolved into a trip to Kallang river, next to the stadium. Admittedly, (yes, I am ashamed to say this), it is my first time there and woah is the view pretty or what. The whole serenity of the area coupled with the shining sun, wind and the view of kayaks and dragon boat rides as well as kids running around; I very much like!

The route we took is basically East Coast > Mountbatten Road > Kallang. A fairly easy cycle though, since it only took us 2 hours for the to and for journey, whilst cycling at a leisurely pace. The danger is that we constantly had to cycle on, or next to, the roads itself, on really tiny pavements, on grass even and oh, have I mentioned there were many little hills to conquer? Haha.

Nevertheless I think all the walking about with the boyfriend has somehow added on to my stamina as I found myself not even panting once. Chedebah! Those walks from Jurong East back home, or from Woodlands to Sembawang, amongst many others, have been put to good use then! Kekeke.

Stepping aside for the moment, I think that the whole point of Alphabet Weekends is to learn more about your partner through the series of fun activities. I guess for this Cycling trip, I can see that Haikal’s really efficient with the roads. It’s really like he has the whole map of Singapore plastered in his head lah!
For example, he’d suddenly make a turn at an unknown place, screaming “I’m sure this is a shortcut!“, and 5 minutes later we’d arrive on the other side, shaving off quite an amount from the original distance. Never fails, I tell you, never fails. Needless to say, this girl who, for the sake of her life, cannot read maps, is throughly amazed.

And also, he’s this stickler for road safety. Kekeke. I’ve always been the ‘dash across the road’ kind of girl, but Alhamdulillah, so far I’ve not run into any accidents. (Although I can hardly count the number of times cars horn and screech into a halt for me.) Throughout the cycling trip, Haikal would lead the way and be my traffic light, cocking his head back to check on me every 5 seconds.
There was a point of time, where he said “No!” but I heard “Ok go!” and I cycled across the street, having a car brake around 5 metres in front of me. *slaps forehead* And this coupled with many other reasons (like having an atrocious sense of direction), ladies and gentlemen, is the reason why I have decided once and for all I will not take up a bike license, no matter the fact that riding a Vespa has been my dream since young :(

So yeah, we ended the day walking around Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall looking for a McDonalds which sells the Mudpie ice cream, but at last gave up and went back home sweet home. It is, I have to say, one of the best days I’ve spent with him :)

So next weekend will be the letter D. We’re kind of short of ideas on what to do, as the budget has dipped quite a bunch. Haha. Anyone has any interesting suggestions? Something unique, like maybe an activity or location, but will not be too hard on our poor pockets :) Thanks in advance! Hope you kids have had a good weekend ey!
