Terawih Sessions.

To tell you the truth, growing up, I have never been one who goes to Terawih sessions during the holy month of Ramadhan. For those not in the know, it is a special prayer performed only in Ramadhan. In no other months can you perform this prayer which takes place only once a year.

So anyway, as I was saying, I’ve never been one who attends these prayer sessions. In fact, out of the 30 days of Ramadhan, I would only do such prayers twice and that, too, only at my Grandma’s place. I could cook up a million and one excuses, but the main reasons are that:-
- I ‘thought’ I had no friends who could accompany me along. When, all along, I could have just picked up the phone and dialed for any of my friends.
- I was helping out at Mum’s shop. This is a valid excuse, though, since the shop is always having a shortage of manpower during the month.
Well, this year I decided to try and make a change and have made it a point to attend the aforementioned prayer sessions daily, be it the full 20 rakaat, or just the 8 rakaat. So far so good, though I am miffed that the momentum has been cut off for a moment due to the unavoidable ‘time of the month’.

I have to admit, there’s something about performing Jemaah (mass prayers) at a Mosque that I really look forward to. Maybe it’s the sense of serenity that the Mosque evokes, maybe it’s the soulful voice of the Imam which really struck a chord with my emotions, maybe it’s the feeling of being ‘one’ with the other Muslims next to me or maybe it’s a feeling of being ‘closer’ to God.

Back to Terawih Sessions, I was thinking of Mosque hopping throughout the month. So far, I have only visited Masjid As-Syakirin and Masjid Sultan, and I have to admit I very much prefer prayers done at the latter Masjid, for it’s less stuffy (which means more concentration and less of wiping sweat off), the Surahs chosen are not too lengthy and the crowd is more adult.
Also, the food stalls around to break fast at are nicer too! Wakakakaka…

Thus, the main point of this entry, is to inform my friends that if you’re breaking your fast with me, PLEASE don’t make me feel lazy to go Terawih, can? Hehehe. Let’s all complete at least 8 rakaats, please? :)
So do you guys perform the Terawih daily? And anyone has any recommendations for nice places to do so? I am thinking of heading to Masjid Firdaus (the one next to the cemetery) soon, so Ikah, please await my sms sometime next week yup!

masjid firdaus scary mary dok!
masjid hopping macam blog hopping but sounds cool though.
when term 2 starts on mon, i wanna try terawih at masjid bencoolen! cos firstly, its fully airconned and i doubt many will come there.
see you tmr, insyaAllah?
=)
That’s what my mom says about the masjid, so I’m still debating whether or not to go there haha… Bencoolen also scary leh! must bring friend! hahaha.. last time i went there, i zipped in and out of the toilet in a blink of an eye kekeke..
Alamak, I’m also guilty of going only once or twice for terawih, haha.
Oooh, I’m thinking of doing my terwaih at Masjid Sultan soon, tell me more about how the crowds there operate, yeah.
Hopefully I don’t succumb to the temptation of sheesha after terawih, heh.
hahaha it’s ok. next year you can be like me and start masjid hopping. Anyway for Sultan, it’s really laid back and peaceful, nothing scary mary. Crowds not so much, so you don’t feel claustrophobic :) You can leave after 8 rakaat as quite a number of people do that there. And as for sheesha, apa salahnyaaaaa wakakakka!
I don’t usually go since I really don’t have anyone to go with me.
Where do you live? If its around my area, perhaps you can tag along when me and my friends go! :)
Omg! i was going to put up a post asking for masjid recommendations but then i was feeling guilty for masjid-hopping! lol. thanks faddy! now let’s get the suggestions rolling in!
i pray terawih daily at Masjid Istighfar (pasir ris) but on weekends, aidil and i masjid-hop.
factors we consider: which masjid has aircon or is airy, imam who recites beautifully, how many rakaats, easy parking and yes, which masjid offers free food on wkends. hahaha. terrible right? from restaurant-hopping buggers, aidil and i have turned into masjid hoppers.
but of course, the jemaah prayers are smthg special. i love. do you go for qiyaam too?
anyway, we mostly go to the ones in the east. so these mosques might not be accessible for you babe. =(
- masjid mydin: aircon, dificult parking
- majid kampung siglap: airy/ aircon, difficult parking
- masjid istiqamah: hot/ no airco, 8 rakaat, nice pple, easy parking
- masjid halim siddique: aircon, nice pple, difficult parking, FANTASTIC BRYANI DULANG on weekends. Must try at least once!
- masjid bab alwi: small, older more serious crowd, difficult parking, but the experience is smthg else.
- masjid en-naeem: newly renovated, airy, difficult parking
- masjid al-istighfar: aircon, 8 rakaat, nice pple, HDB multi-storey parking
(sorry what a very long comment. hehe.)
You’re welcome Shaz! Haha… and thank YOU for that long comment, you know I love them! Now I have so many choices! After reading you comment, I’m confirm going to try Bab Alwi and perhaps Halim Siddique (no the briyani has nothing to do with it hehe). Thanks again hor! As for qiyam, I’m thinking of attending once next with at the Mosque at Bukit Panjang with Nassy. BTW, can i see pics of you and hana in tudung? HAHA..
you know….8 rakaats might seem like a big deal. (it does, to me. hehehe). but our Prophet prayed ALL night in Ramadan that when he ended prayers each night, his followers/ friends were rushing home to eat sahur before subuh arrived. imagine that. =)
Amin! :D
i love this entry of yours.only this year ive started to go terawih too i mean regularly. so far ive just been to 3 different places. Ive only been to Masjid Al-Nadha, Masjid Ba’alwi & MUIS. All 3 mosques are different.
-Al nadha being very new and very modern full equipped with flat screen tv’s showing the iman and all is too very spacious. And they only do 8 rakaats .but i never why they didnt on the air cons.
the crowd there is nice too.and they have different iman’s on different days.like ustaz ahmad dahri, nur tijani and bla bla bla.
-masjib ba’alwi. i love it there,i practically grew up around that area, although abit “kampung” style but its mosque is always packed.so you feel very very bersemangat like that.but if you are like me,who goes off after the 8 rakaat. you better delay delay duduk belakang cause its always jammed pack and its difficult to excuse yourself . To me they also have the most delicious bandung or air katira depending on the days.
And Habib Hassan voice is superb!
-MUIS its just a stone throw from my place, on lazy busy days. i go there. why? because you can complete you 8 rakaats by 9.10pm.yes its that fast tau.cause the iman seems to be VERY FAST cause they do 20 rakaats there.but since MUIS temporary building is of an very very old school. so its kinda praying in a kampung kinda feel.very nostalgic i say. but the iman voice is not as powerr la.
anyhoos i still miss Masjid Bidadari, its a pity they closed it dwn already. Seriously it was an eye opener when i went there last year to terawih.very very small crowd but all very warm and cozy people.iman suara sedappp and very friendly lagi…
ok maybe we all could go terawih together la one day,and i was thinking to terawih at Darul Makwa one of these days. Visit them for an iftar and join them in terawih.i bet it will be a whole new experience then
Thanks Yuana for the great recommendations! I’m going to try Ba’alwi, seems like everyone is raving about how the place has a different atmosphere. I guess it must be cuz of Habib Hassan being there, ey? Thanks again babe! Really appreciate it :)
try at al istiqamah, al naeam, al taqua, al iman.
i got no reviews for each lah but to be able to do our terawih prayers at any place is good enough for me.
Will take not Kak Yati! Thanks! :D As for your latter comment, I guess it’s true. But me being me, being the first time I’m really trying to do terawih everyday, I guess I’m in that gungho semangat mood, so want to try out different mosques :)
You boleh angkat gambar in mosque … handal!
:)
haha i wanted to take more but paiseh :/
i like the fact that the mosques rotate imams every night. the variety of styles makes each terawih experience an interesting one. =)
and each plot of land you sincerely and humbly pray on will vouch for you on Judgment Day, insya’allah.
btw, does anyone happen to know where ustz fahrurrazi leads terawih prayers?
i heard that he’s mostly bukit panjang. he do at void decks there too.
hey shaz, frm what i heard he is always at Almukminin every sunday.
you can try…
=)
Good post there faddy…
Masjid Al-Firdaus is not the one beside the cemetary.. its opposite the New Police Acadamy at Sungei Tengah. Masjid Pusara Aman is the one..hehhe its nearby my home but i dun dare pray at that mosque.
I’ve been doing the terawih at Masjid As-syakirin or Al-Mukminin but this yr i’ve been abit lazy to travel there. I either pray at home with hubby or walked to the next block for mass prayers under the block with other muslims.
Mosque hopping is great as you can really feel and experience a diff mood in every mosque. But of cos do the terawih full heartedly and not just for fun.
Oohh oops! Thanks for sifting that mistake out, now I know kekeke. Pusara Aman dah close eh, last i heard? Why you don’t dare pray at the mosque? You’re with your hubby kan? kekeke.. anyway, I guess As-Syakirin is the safest bet for me too. Nearest. I’m still miffed we don’t have a mosque around our area -.-
Shaz, he’s also at Al-Iman - Bukit Panjang on certain days. Do give the mosque a call to check on his schedules.
There is nothing to worry about to head down Masjid Firdaus. It’s a nice and peaceful place. Used to sleep over there during FO camp. =) and yes I was left alone there making supper!
Anyway, I would recommend Masjid Kassim (8 Rakaat, accessible and you can find variety of food to break fast).
Masjid Nahdhah and Masjid Al-Istiqamah are also best places to head down.
If you preferred something like Kampong days then try Masjid Al-Huda.
That note about Firdaus was assuring, thanks Humairah! Should be heading there at least once to experience it :) Anyway, where’s Masjid Huda? Is it the one at Sembawang next to the beach? If not, does anyone know the name for that Masjid? It’s more like a Surau…
I think you are saying about the temporary occupied license of Masjid Sembawang.Simply click HERE for further info. =)
which mosque is that?
Which mosque you referring to? hahaha…
Go Masjid Pusara Aman… Peaceful. See ya there Faddy.
You solat there daily eh Yat?
If u EVER wana go to Ghufran, i bet u’ll take only 8 rakaat coz 1 day, they read up 1 jus for the surah after Al-Fatehah.
That makes them katam for the whole Ramadhan.
Well u cud practise for ur tigh muscle tho.
Kekeke!!
Ok we shall drag Kak Lily for terawih too ok.
Since i sometimes do it ALONE at home, i wana gain xtra points for solat-ing berjemaah.
Yeay terawih wit cousins!!
Never we did once b4 rite?
haha woah then like that what time does the terawih end there seh? Your mum goes there daily kan for the past few years? And YES im agreeable to Terawih with you and Kak Lili! So exciting! Never done before :)

Hahaha.. That’s masjid Sultan, at Arab Street (bugis). As for the offer, thanks but I might have to turn it down. EAST SIDE seh. hahahhaa.. If I’m east side, means I already have friends to go with kekekke… Thanks again though, Lysa. Really appreciate the offer :) Anyway, Geylang, I tak favourite sangat ah -.- Sorry. keeke..

thanks all for the updates on ustz fahrurrazi. i really like ustz, his personality, his delivery, his content. his sunday classes at jamiyyah are really good. ramadhan mubarak to all and may Allah accept our prayers and doas, and pardon our sins.
=)
Amin to that :)
Hey, was wondering where is masjid Firdaus? hehe
Here you go babe! :) How appropriate its at Jalan Ibadat kekeke…
Definitely Ba’Alwi.
Prayers officially start around 8.30pm, and by 9.30 latest the 20 rakaat plus 3 witir is complete. And the have like ice cream, katira, and *I totally didn’t say this* CELEBRITIES FLOCK THERE! And clerics from Indonesia, Saudi go there and they have like ceramahs and stuff.
Well, Ba’Alwi is a top choice also because it’s a few stops away from Town and Adam Road. Hehehe.
Woohoo I’m going Ba’alwi next week! Can’t wait! Break fast at Adam’s road and down to the Mosque kekeke.. CELEBRITIES! Siapa? Siapa? wakaka.. kidding. *slaps myself if i go there for the celebrities -.-*
[...] Terawih Session by Faddy [...]
I would recommend 2 mosques:
- Masjid Kassim
Terawih sessions completed by 9.30pm,
many stalls outside the mosque, good food around the area and a few bus stops away from Geylang. =P
- Masjid Al-Falah
Good food, central location especially if you are meeting with friends who lives in the east/north area. Although it’s in town area, it’s a great place to go.
:D
Your blog is interesting!
Keep up the good work!
