Kukup Day 1.

Posted: July 10th, 2007 | Author: faddy | Filed under: Photography, Travel | 49 Comments »

Heh, since when does Faddy go anywhere and not post up any pictures? Kekeke. Anyway like I’ve mentioned in the previous entry, I am rather unsatisfied with how the pictures turned out. But I’m posting some up well, my hands are itchy.

Anyway, back to the trip. Myself, Eddy and Sha met up early in the morning at 8am amidst a thundering rainstorm (surprisingly it wasn’t hard to get out of bed haha. Excited mah!) and together the three of us went across the border, had a quick breakfast and finally met up with LTS.

After 30 minutes of trying to contact Cik Man, our hired driver, we finally hopped aboard the grey car and sped off towards Kukup. Will someone please enlighten me as to how to make calls to Malaysian handphone numbers? I can NEVER get through! Pfft.

Actually, coming to think of it, I can’t even make calls to anyone. hahaha. I can only receive calls and send/receive smses. Hmm, how eh like that? Oh, and the car ride was hilarious. With Sha upfront and Eddy, LTS and I at the back, we kept roaring with laughter over some show they watched over the weekend.

Cik Man (the driver) was surprised when he found out we were totally unprepared for the trip. Heh, the only thing we had ‘planned’ was the rented car. We didn’t have any accommodation nor activities ready. It’s definitely a break from the usual holidays I have ever taken :)

This trip was more of LTS’s kind of trip, where we just go where our feet and the situation takes us. Listening to her interesting stories on her trips around the world, I have always wanted to give it a shot, and erm, this is a small step but it IS a step after all.

After going around for quite a while looking for available accommodation but to no avail, the knight in the shining armor came in the form of the above Pakcik and his uber cute daughter, Hidayah. As they breezed past us on the bicycle, LTS shouted out for help and he beckoned us to tail him.

And finally after an hour and some hardcore negotiation, we finally got a 3 room chalet with living room, kitchen AND balcony all to ourselves for RM$160. Cheap hor! It really is damn big, as compared to Costa Sands. Comes with a surround sound karaoke system, and spanking new tv and dvd players ok!

After plopping our backpacks on the clean tiled floor, the 4 of us, eager to explore the location, strapped our cameras over our necks and headed out. Erm, a bit of a picture diarrhea here kids :)

I found it so refreshing, traveling with the three buggers, as I experienced things which I would never have done if I was traveling with my parents etcetera. We made friends with some local fishermen and managed to enter their private jetty, got ourselves into a police-only area and took so many photos that the 15 minute walk into the ‘city’ became a full 90 minute walk. Kekekeke.

After lunch (of which everyone ordered Maggi Mee Goreng. How exciting! kekeke) at one of the three or so Malay foodstalls and catching up on events since the last time the 4 of us collectively met, we headed back in and finally, as the humid weather and grey skies caught up on us,

Mattresses and couches became our victim as we snored the evening away, tired from all the walking and laughing. Wah, it was one of my best sleep ever man! I found myself waking up with a pool of drool on my cheeks kekeke. Been so long since I found myself in that situation!

As dusk drew near, one by one the sleepy heads got up and we headed to our balcony overlooking the mangrove. Whilst giggling at each others’ stoink-ed faces, we just immersed ourself in the beautiful scenery around, as birds flew back to their nests and the tide subsided.

And finally, the part of the trip which I was so looking forward to:-

The seafoooood! Sorry kids, no macro pictures of the dishes this time round. We were too hungry and fuh, the food was syiok. Isn’t it obvious we ordered like a lot of dishes? Kekeke. I think out of everything, the Nestum Prawn was the best. Oh damn it, I got myself hungry again.

In total, the spread cost us RM$110. Not bad, I have to say. Everything was really good to eat, except for the Kangkong Belacan. Oh! And the chrysanthemum tea was so good we even ordered a jug to bring home with kekeke.

Over the food we discovered more about each other; our pasts and the present. I love just listening to the hearty banter between the 3 adults (haha quite big sia our age gap. I’m like 11 years younger then the oldest, and 9 years younger then the youngest), and well, sometimes it does feel nice being the youngest kekeke.

By around 9pm we headed back to the chalet as the town sleeps by then, and washed up. As the toilet was rather distant from the living room where we were all sleeping together, we had to accompany each other wakakaka. Haiyo, so old still need toilet buddy wakakaka.

Oh and cute huh the “toilet bowls”. Apparently, that is the drainage system. Everything you dispose will drop into the mud below, and when the tide rises, your disposed materials will be carried off, into the sea, where, not far away, fishermen catch fish and serve them to you. Wakakakaka. *Mmmm, sedap!*

By the time the 2 Dvds we bought (Ghost stories la, aboden! haha) ended at around 3am, Sha and I were already fast asleep. Too shagged man. But seriously, it was the most hilarious ghost story screening I’ve ever had, thanks to a certain person who sleeps next to me. Wakakka, so damn amusing (inside joke, sorry).

Ok, Kukup Day 2 contains better pictures, in my humble opinion, due to the better weather and the activities we carried out. To round this entry up, a video showcasing just how silly (young at heart lah!) we were and a sneak preview of Day 2 :)

Now that is the reason why De sometimes go fishing but never eat the fish. Like what u explained. Fish will eat those disposed stuffs..even our poopoo. Haha! Okay..I shall stop here. LOL!

Oh Kukup kat Malaysia Truly Asia…
Ingat kat Indo seh.
And that place you lodged at, it resembles a kelong! I remember going to the Riau Islands for sch project and staying at a kelong with 2 huge dogs for 3 days and the sunrise and sunset were soooo beautiful man! Oh and I didnt eat fish the whole time there ’cause I realised that the fishies that were served probably ate my schoolmates’ shit already lah. (yeah the people there are into minimalist chic, the toilets are furnished with simply a hole in the floor)
Eh but not bad ah that place. Got aircon!
And you don’t look short in the vid! Which is quite funny, cause from what I remember…
Neh mind! Haha panjang betol komen aku ni…
