I recall quite some time back, a friend of mine who’s a Malaysian studying in Singapore griped about how he found it hard to find room rental here in our country. According to him, classifieds and ads are rather sporadic, and agencies which assist in getting rooms usually charge a high fee for the service.
Sebastian, the ehem, good looking (picture under the cut) sole developer and “team” behind the non-commercial http://singapore.roomsdb.net, too faced a similar issue when he was an NUS student here a few years back. However, unlike my friend, he decided to create a change by providing a solution at his own cost, aiding throngs of others who faced the same situation.
You know how it’s so mafan (troublesome) advertising in some websites, what with the whole deal where you have to register and stuff? RoomsDB.net completely eradicates that. Yes, you don’t even have to register if you want to advertise!
Also, the majority of the ads are private to private - landlord to rentee, thus eliminating any middlemen costs. These private to private ads are tagged with a yellow star so you can directly distinguish between ads without and with agent fees.
With the site’s sleek and minimalistic design, I found it really easy to navigate around and from what I noticed, the site is completely FREE to use. You don’t have to pay a single cent when you advertise, or rent. It’s as good as pasting your room rental advertisements at a random bus stop, but WITHOUT the risk of getting fined hahaha.
At one glance, you can already see that there are a lot of rooms for rent available online, ranging from master rooms to common rooms and even selections for HDB flats and condominiums. I bet, never again would anyone face the same problem Sebastian used to face :)
A nice touch that Sebastian has added to his privately funded project is the blog detailing the progress of the site. With such a personal touch, you can’t help but want to support this guy. As of today, he has even expanded his free service to the people in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
