Old Changi Hospital & Commando Barracks.

Posted: June 1st, 2007 | Author: faddy | Filed under: Dear Diary, Photography | 45 Comments »

During the 2 days 1 night chalet at Changi, the cousins and I decided to visit the ‘haunted locations’ around the area. In fact, the infamous Old Changi Hospital was just across the road from our chalet; tell me, who wouldn’t be tempted? Haha.

The initial plan was to tour the places under the starry skies, but because we were watching a film on Pocongs which ended only at 330am, we decided to postpone the trip to morning so that I could take pictures as well. Hoho! Finally, my virgin trip to the location!

The climb up the steep flight of stairs in itself was very creepy; my wild imagination keeps replaying scenes from the Pocong film and after a headcount, we stepped into the premises, where Anz and Ahmad, who had been to the place countless times (but at night) led the way.

Being the scaredy cat that I was, I couldn’t really stop to take proper pictures as I just CANNOT stand to be left alone in the dark empty rooms as the rest shuffle in and out in a quest to look for the entrance to the basement. Thus, pardon the bad photography :/ Cannot make it. Haha.

Some of the rooms were really pitch dark and we had to maneuver around using light from handphones and lighters. It could be my imagination, but at times I felt really uneasy, as if someone was just looking at all of us.

So anyway, like I mentioned, the cousins were on a quest to get into the basement. The story was that the basement used to serve as the hospital’s mortuary and thus was the most keras (erm, full of spirits?) location in the entire premises. It was also said that the entrance to that place was the only one which remained lock and cordoned off from public.

However, one of the cousins had a tip from a friend that the lock has been broken and the entrance was just to the right of the main entrance. Weirdly though, we circled the entire area thrice, poking into EVERY room and yet we didn’t manage to find the door.

And I say circled, cuz it seemed like even though we consciously decided to move to different areas of the buildings to search for the door, we somehow ended up where we started at. Hmm…

Have any of you been in the mortuary? If so, where exactly is the location of the place ey? I’m rather curious. Telltale signs : Pitch black and very very smelly, according to my cousin’s friend.

Tired and frustrated, we then decided to leave the place to head to another location. Anz says that around the vicinity, there’s a derelict Old Japanese School. Together, the 6 of us trudged down the gravel road from OCH’s carpark down the hill, until we finally saw an old building.

At first I thought it was the Japanese School, as it seemed that the whole building just comprised of classrooms, classrooms and more classrooms with wide open spaces. However, after reading Izad’s post on haunted houses, now I know that it was the Commando Barracks.

As Anz and Firdaus were too darn tired to climb up the stairs, they left myself with the 3 other guys to explore the place. Thus, my intention to take photographs again was hampered as the other 3 quickly moved from one room to another and I just CANNOT be left in a room alone, being the scaredy cat that I am hahaha.

But overall, I find that the Old Changi Hospital was waaaaay scarier then the Barracks. I felt more unease there, and there were just so many twists and turns and pitch dark rooms that I just find it hard to understand how kids can go there at night and not get lost haha.

Have you been to any of these two locations? Any ghostly experiences to share? I know some people who actually were possesed at the Hospital, suddenly walking up the rooftop alone, or laughing to himself suddenly, and the group who kept going down the stairs but just couldn’t reach the first floor. Erk.

Will I go to the places at night?… Most likely not. Wakakakakakka!

Wow, look at all the pics there, very cool :) You’re still brave you know, since you went there. For me, I used to like exploring abandoned buildings when I was young. But then they cordon it off and its hard for me to enter.

I love the pictures Faddy :) Really spectacular

Great info and great pics u have there. Love it! And ur trip to those 2 places is a good experience right? I think to differentiate, u must go there in daytime and night time. Hehe! But I guess night time more scarier. They often say that there’s a woman who will keep looking at the 3rd or 4th level at one corner of this room, tepi tingkap at OCH. I didn’t manage to get to the mortuary coz the police were rounding and we ran like one typhoon kids. Haha! Tak nak kena tangkap dengan polis, so everyone ran. LOL!

My grandfather used to work at Japanese school as a security guard. There was this one time where he was doing his work in his hut and this thing disturbed him. And it happened petang and also malam. But seeing my grandpa as someone who can’t be bothered, this thing went away. Lol!

Yah, kalau kene tangkap police, if im not mistaken, fine is $500 per head. Gila btol hahha.. As for your grandpa, SALUTE dia lah! hahhaa!

you went in the day mestilah boleh amek gambar… cuba try malam, nak buka mata pon tak boleh make it.. i went there night time in a group with bikes, i dah takut… sampai one time tu teni tried to play tricks on me nak takutkan beta si pengecut hantu…

what he did, he switch off the engine off button instead of matikan from the kunci.. and he act as if got hantu kacau kita… you cant imagine how my face looks like at the pillion seat.. i terus kejam mata and baca ayat qursi kuat2, sampai tersasul baca doa makan. everyone laughing like mad sia… but we couldnt explore further cos ada police car, didnt let us go in lah. lucky me… if not surely i cry.

i heard at the mortuary room, got one malay uncle do night guards with a big dog. so dont play play! my friends ever kena chase by the dog before..

Aiyoh, nasib baik i never go then! tak pernah dengar pulak pasal big dog tu… scary mary! dah lah i takut hantu.. takut anjing plak tu. confirm pengsan wahahahaha!

heya.. hopped over from sha’s bloggie. :)

wow, even though ur pics were taken in a hurry, they’re still super good IMO! it’s interesting to see pics of the old changi hospital taken in daylight, cos the last time i went there, it was about 2am. =_= i was super chicken about it, but since my friends were so ‘on’, i had no choice but to follow suit. we didn’t see anything, but i felt the hairs on my neck inexplicably rise when we were crossing this spooky hallway on the second floor.

i’m pretty sure that place is haunted, but i guess there were too many ‘tourists’ about that night for anything to make its presence known. :P

As for gg there at 2am, waaaah very brave already lor you followed ur frens. i would have chosen to go home or something haha. Feeling2 bulu roma naik is like a MUST for a trip there, from what i read. luckily never ‘kena’. hhaah!
