Happy Mother’s Day Everydobi!

At around 4pm, after spending the morning making Mom’s Surprise (which, I admit, is not so wow but is very sincere haha), I finally made my way to Fee’s brother’s wedding function. The above cupcakes basically describe the way the place was decorated – pinkish and whitish tones, with chic furniture and ornaments.

Also, it was a breakaway from the traditional Malay wedding. Instead of hearing endless renditions of “Oh Fatimah“, some Bollywood song, or worse, croaky attempts at Karaoke, they had real live bands playing English songs. Damn good bands too! Amongst other things, a booth for Polaroid photo taking was set up for guests. Like woah~ Faddy loikes!

Unfortunately, clad in a gold semi baju kurung, my female hormones enveloped my entire being and thus I didnt have the balls to go around taking pictures hahaha! At that moment, it seemed that the right thing to do was to sit down and talk cock, but right now I really regret not snapping around. Erh, wasted!

But anywhoos, I did manage to catch a glimpse of the bride and groom. Very gorgeous couple, I have to say! Actually they’re already married a couple of months back, but it was only today that they held the official ceremony. Fee, care to explain why? haha.

An hour and a stuffed tummy later (you should see the selectios of kuih!), Kimmy and I bade farewell and gave our wellwishes to the “newly wedded” couple.

As much as I look grumpy at weddings when it comes to going with my parents, I have to admit that secretly I love attending such functions. My favourite moment would be when the bride and groom arrive. It’s like for that moment, perfection exists. The whole world just stands still for these two souls and at that precise point, there are no negativities in the world. Ah, Faddy’s a romanticist at heart you see :P

Anyway, thanks Fee for inviting me to your brother’s wedding. It was a very beatiful poignant function, and I especially enjoyed sinking my teeth in the pink cupcake whilst feeling the breeze, listening to the rendition of some slow romantic song which it carried along. Ala Cafe Del Mar, I tell you! hahaha.

To add on to Mother’s Day, today too happens to be my parent’s twenty-third wedding anniversary. No joke yo! That’s a really long time to be spending with someone, I think. And furthermore, I have to say in all those years I only saw my mom and dad squabbling twice. Talk about patience and understanding one another!

I confess I have a soft spot for “old couples”. There was this time, when I was in Sec 4, and I happened to catch a very senior (white hair, wrinkled skin, very few teeth) couple dining at McDonalds. In between them they only had 1 Fillet-o-fish to share, and you know what happened? The AhPek delicately unwrapped the blue paper, and held out the burger to the nonya (as in, he fed her), letting her have the first bite. Isn’t it adorable? Heh. Ok just ignore me.

By around 5pm my family and I made our to my Uncle’s Condominium. Since we arrived late, we missed out on all the bowling and swimming shenanigans. Eh, what a bummer! And again, sorry to disappoint but I didn’t take much pictures. Was too busy stuffing myself silly with more scrumptious food :D Bad, Fat Faddy!

Highlite of the day was grannie, who was in a high mood since she kept having to tear open one gift wrapped pressent after the other. 2 of my aunts gave her rings, and we asked her to pose, she actually imitated those model-esque glam mama poses on tv! Hahahahaa. Had a good laugh over that one. Nenek, nenek… Nenek cute lah! Atok was just sitting at a corner amused, I tell ya.

The evening went by just like any other gathering on Dad’s side. The fathers seated in front of the television lapping up Windtalkers, the mothers chatting and laughing aloud over the dining table (where occasionally one would get up to scream at the children), and the kids running around practically everywhere.

One thing I’m glad about dad’s side, is that we’re a rather “small” family, as compared to my Mom’s side, and I can safely say (from what I know lah) that we have no politics intertwined whatsoever. It saddens me when I hear stories about how families break up due to backbiting and whatnot. Alhamdulillah, my dad’s side get along well. I even feel ’safe’ sharing secrets with some of my aunts :)

The night ended with a cake cutting ceremony (or rather, two). Nenek cutting the Mothers’ Day cake (she actually lifted her fingers with the rings on it HAHHAA) and my parents cutting the Anniversary Brownie which Fauzi and I baked in hush hush when she was out in the morning.

Mom was actually blushing from the attention she was receiving I tell you hahaha! She was beaming from ear to ear all the way. Alhamdulillah, been a long time since I last saw that haha…

Haha, it was my first time baking a brownie and even with a premix I managed to cock things up :P Oh wells, practice makes perfect I guess? It was a tad on the too hard side, and the makcik-makcik commented that I should have mixed it more. Ok go!

Overall, I had a fun time with my Dad’ side, just catching up with one another’s lives. I love every single one of my aunts, uncles and cousins, and am very thankful that we’re all what we are :)

Oh, and the gift I got for my mom? Basically I edited photos, printed them out and pasted them in a very nice photoalbum, with accompanying text. Ok lah, I know it’s not a big a deal, but I was sincere in making it. Afterall, if you’re close to me you’d know how much I hate doing all this thingamajigs hahha.

Was my Mom touched? I dare say so hehehe. I passed the album to her before we left for my Uncle’s and after reading through it, I saw her wiping her eyes. Ok could be she had something in it, but I choose to see that she was touched :P Anyways we’re slowly but surely getting back to normality, so Alhamdulillah. It’s waaaay overdue.
